The Ballari district administration on Saturday took possession of a parcel of land belonging to the Masonic Hall, situated opposite Pola Hotel in the city, bringing under government control a property valued at several crores of rupees.
The land had been the subject of administrative and legal proceedings for several years. Acting on relevant records and official orders, revenue authorities, accompanied by the police, visited the site and formally took possession of the property on behalf of the government.
Following the development, the officials erected a signboard declaring the land as government property.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammed N. Zubair said, “The land, measuring 4 acres and 44 cents in Town Survey (TS) No. 102 in Ballari city, had been taken over by the Revenue Department in compliance with orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner.”
He said the property had remained under the possession and use of the Masonic Hall since 1884. However, no statutory utilisation, renewal or other required compliance measures relating to the property had been undertaken in accordance with the rules.
After examining the matter, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Revenue Department to take possession of the land and bring it under the government control, Mr. Zubair said.
Acting on the directions, a team of officials visited the site on Saturday and completed the legal process of taking over the property, he added.
Assistant Commissioner Rajesh H.D., Deputy Director of Land Records Pramod, Ballari Tahsildar T. Rekha, revenue inspectors, officials of the Ballari City Corporation, the police officers and other staff participated in the operation.
