The Pune district administration on Monday urged Warkaris and devotees to avoid entering Alandi, as the overflowing Indrayani River has submerged all four bridges leading into the temple town ahead of the upcoming palakhi procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj.
With thousands of pilgrims expected to reach the town for the July 8 procession, officials have declared the town inaccessible and issued an urgent appeal for those already en route to halt their journeys to ensure their safety amid the flooding.
“All four bridges over the Indrayani River providing access to Alandi have submerged due to flooding. It is not safe to travel to the town at present,” the administration stated in a release.
It urged Warkaris and devotees who have already started their journey to halt at their present locations and avoid entering the town until further directions.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall lashed the isolated parts of Rajasthan during the 24 hours ending Monday morning, with Shrimadhopur in Sikar district recording the highest rainfall of 75 mm, the Meteorological centre said.
Light to moderate rainfall also persisted at several places in the State.
Shrimadhopur in Sikar district recorded the highest rainfall of 75 mm during the period. Jaipur received up to 40 mm of rainfall, while moderate to heavy rainfall was also recorded in Udaipur, Jhalawar, Baran, Sirohi and several other districts.
The south west monsoon is expected to remain active over parts of the Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur and Ajmer divisions during the next five to seven days and rainfall is likely over most areas.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in southeastern Rajasthan between July 6 and 9.

The Odisha government has put the entire State on alert as incessant rain continued for the third consecutive day on Monday, even as the IMD forecast more downpour till July 7, officials said.
Several district administrations declared all educational institutions closed in view of the heavy rainfall.
According to the revenue department, schools and colleges remained shut in Cuttack, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Bargarh districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an ‘orange’ warning (be prepared to take action) of heavy to very heavy rainfall for Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Bolangir districts during the day.
It also issued a ‘yellow’ warning (be alert) of heavy rainfall for Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Nayagarh districts.

Heavy rains in Mumbai crippled air travel, leaving a minister and legislators from Nagpur stranded at the city’s airport as they were unable to reach the State capital for the Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra Legislature on Monday.
Earlier in the day, State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and several MLAs had to cancel their travel plans after the severe weather conditions grounded flights.
Talking to reporters, BJP MLA Sameer Meghe noted that his 10.10 a.m. IndiGo flight from Nagpur to Mumbai never departed from the State capital, leaving the group in limbo until they officially decided to postpone their trip.
BJP MLA Praveen Datke stated that they chose to postpone their travel to avoid the chaos caused by the rains, deeming it safer to wait until tomorrow.
Congress MLA Vikas Thakre expressed his displeasure, noting the uncertainty about flight schedules and the possibility of getting stranded in Mumbai.

The incident occurred at Patan village in Maval tehsil.
Three members of a family were trapped after their house was buried under debris when a landslip struck the village in the early hours, police said.
“The body of one person has been recovered from the debris, and the search is underway for the other two,” an NDRF official said.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday (July 6, 2026) directed developers and contractors to suspend hazardous construction activities and ensure strict safety measures at all project sites, following a ‘red’ alert for extremely heavy rains and strong winds.
Compliance with the advisory is mandatory, the BMC said, stressing that the safety of workers, neighbouring residents and the general public is of paramount importance.
In an advisory issued to developers, architects, licensed surveyors, contractors, project managers and site engineers, the civic body asked them to inspect scaffolding, tower cranes, material hoists, safety nets, formwork, tin sheets and other temporary structures to ensure they are stable and securely fastened.
The BMC directed that loose materials on upper floors, terraces and elevated platforms be removed or firmly secured to prevent accidents during strong winds.

A fireman sustained severe leg injuries while clearing a massive uprooted tree and, in separate incidents, a large billboard and two walls collapsed following heavy rainfall and strong winds in Maharashtra’s Thane city, officials said.
The heavy rain triggered a total of 186 emergency complaints across Thane city, including 110 tree collapses, 38 fallen branches, four instances of waterlogging, two compound wall collapses, and one slab fall.
In neighbouring Palghar district, strong winds blew away the tin-roofed sheds and uprooted trees in a residential school, the officials said, adding that all 350 students at the establishment were safe.
Rescue teams and civic bodies across both Thane and Palghar districts were on high alert as rainwater entered several low-lying houses.

As heavy rains continued to pound Mumbai on Sunday, an 18-year-old motorcyclist and a senior citizen lost their lives in tree-collapse incidents, pushing the death toll from such tragedies in the city to three in less than a week.
According to civic officials, a tree collapsed on a shop near the Hindi BMC School in the Naupada locality of Kurla West around 12.40 p.m.
The victim, Yunus Kundawala, was extricated from the debris and rushed to Fauzia Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.
Mayor Ritu Tawde visited the site and also announced immediate financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh for the family of the deceased.
In a separate incident, an 18-year-old boy died after a tree branch fell on him while he was riding a motorcycle in the Aarey Colony area of Goregaon East.

Train services on the busy Mumbai-Pune route were suspended early Monday after heavy rains triggered landslips in the Karjat-Lonavala Bhor Ghat section, officials said.
A landslip occurred near Thakurwadi in the ghat section, Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, told PTI. Another landslip was reported on the middle line between Khandala and Monkey Hill at around 3.05 am, he added.
Due to the landslip, all the three railway lines have been affected, forcing Central Railway to cancel, divert and regulate several long-distance trains, Nila said.
