Seven private buses destroyed in garage fire in Vijayawada

A major fire broke out at a private vehicle garage in Autonagar, Vijayawada, on Sunday, destroying seven travel buses and partially damaging three other vehicles.

No one was injured in the incident, NTR District Fire Officer A. V. Shankar Rao said.

Workers at the garage ran to safety as flames engulfed the parked buses. “As it was Sunday, only a few mechanics were on duty at the garage,” a worker said.

Fire tenders from the Autonagar, Kothapet and Vijayawada fire stations were pressed into service to douse the blaze. Additional Director of Fire Services G. Srinivasulu rushed to the spot and supervised the firefighting operation.

Fire personnel brought the blaze under control after about two hours and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring mechanic sheds and industrial units, Mr. Shankar Rao said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, Mr. Srinivasulu said.
